Adaware, a product of cybersecurity firm Lavasoft, (formerly known as Ad-Aware) is designed to combat the types of malicious apps and privacy invasions of which many consumers are unaware. It includes programs that alter your surfing habits, courses that hijack the start page of your browser and applications that display annoying advertising at the most inconvenient times. The program is free and comes with a host of extra features to increase security and ensure your device runs efficiently.
In our tests, adaware was able to identify the majority of the malware we put at it. It did have trouble removing some, however. It also comes with useful features, including a privacy monitor and registry scanner. It also includes a file shredder, advanced network monitoring, and a privacy monitor. Adaware doesn’t offer as much protection as the top antivirus software.
The last time adaware participated in AV-Test lab tests, it was able to block only ninety-five. 4.4% of 0-day threats and 97% of known threats. These aren’t bad scores but they’re far from being anywhere near the top security suites.
Adaware users looking for better performance should look into alternatives. We suggest Kaspersky and Bitdefender, which are renowned for their reliability in real-world tests. Also only Pro and Total intego review plan users have access to online technical and customer support, which may be a little disappointing for certain users. The company does offer a variety of information and frequently asked questions on its website, though.
